May the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 CSB

It doesn’t take too many headlines or news feeds to be reminded that there is a shattered peace in this world. If you are looking for an external source to bring you peace, you are going to come up empty. Today’s verse speaks to the one and only source of true peace. It can only come from the one who is called the Prince of Peace, Jesus. Jesus is the source of peace. The peace He gives doesn’t come from the outside and work itself in, instead it’s an inside job that works itself out. Where do you need to experience peace today? Would you say you have peace always and in every way? Invite Jesus to step into those places where you are lacking peace. He wants you to experience Him and His peace so that your life brings peace wherever it goes.

2 Thessalonians 1 CSB

Greeting

1
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy:

To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

God’s Judgment and Glory

3
We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, since your faith is flourishing and the love each one of you has for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches—about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions that you are enduring. 5 It is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you also are suffering, 6 since it is just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels, 8 when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength 10 on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed. 11 In view of this, we always pray for you that our God will make you worthy of his calling, and by his power fulfill your every desire to do good and your work produced by faith, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified by you, and you by him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2 CSB

The Man of Lawlessness

2
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him: We ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to be easily upset or troubled, either by a prophecy or by a message or by a letter supposedly from us, alleging that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits in God’s temple, proclaiming that he himself is God.

5 Don’t you remember that when I was still with you I used to tell you about this? 6 And you know what currently restrains him, so that he will be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one now restraining will do so until he is out of the way, 8 and then the lawless one will be revealed. The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of his mouth and will bring him to nothing at the appearance of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is based on Satan’s working, with every kind of miracle, both signs and wonders serving the lie, 10 and with every wicked deception among those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe the lie, 12 so that all will be condemned—those who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.

Stand Firm

13
But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by what we said or what we wrote.

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.

2 Thessalonians 3 CSB

Pray for Us

3
In addition, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not all have faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.

Warning against Irresponsible Behavior

6
Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from every brother or sister who is idle and does not live according to the tradition received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you should imitate us: We were not idle among you; 8 we did not eat anyone’s food free of charge; instead, we labored and toiled, working night and day, so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 It is not that we don’t have the right to support, but we did it to make ourselves an example to you so that you would imitate us. 10 In fact, when we were with you, this is what we commanded you: “If anyone isn’t willing to work, he should not eat.” 11 For we hear that there are some among you who are idle. They are not busy but busybodies. 12 Now we command and exhort such people by the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and provide for themselves. 13 But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good.

14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take note of that person; don’t associate with him, so that he may be ashamed. 15 Yet don’t consider him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Final Greetings

16
May the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 17 I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand, which is an authenticating mark in every letter; this is how I write. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Psalm 18 CSB

Praise for Deliverance

For the choir director. Of the servant of the Lord, David, who spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from the grasp of all his enemies and from the power of Saul. He said:

1
I love you, Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock,
 my fortress, and my deliverer,
 my God, my rock where I seek refuge,
 my shield and the horn of my salvation,
 my stronghold.
3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
 and I was saved from my enemies.

4 The ropes of death were wrapped around me;
 the torrents of destruction terrified me.
5 The ropes of Sheol entangled me;
 the snares of death confronted me.
6 I called to the Lord in my distress,
 and I cried to my God for help.
 From his temple he heard my voice,
 and my cry to him reached his ears.

7 Then the earth shook and quaked;
 the foundations of the mountains trembled;
 they shook because he burned with anger.
8 Smoke rose from his nostrils,
 and consuming fire came from his mouth;
 coals were set ablaze by it.
9 He bent the heavens and came down,
 total darkness beneath his feet.
10 He rode on a cherub and flew,
 soaring on the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his hiding place,
 dark storm clouds his canopy around him.
12 From the radiance of his presence,
 his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.
13 The Lord thundered from heaven;
 the Most High made his voice heard.
14 He shot his arrows and scattered them;
 he hurled lightning bolts and routed them.
15 The depths of the sea became visible,
 the foundations of the world were exposed,
 at your rebuke, Lord,
 at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.

16 He reached down from on high
 and took hold of me;
 he pulled me out of deep water.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy
 and from those who hated me,
 for they were too strong for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
 but the Lord was my support.
19 He brought me out to a spacious place;
 he rescued me because he delighted in me.

20 The Lord rewarded me
 according to my righteousness;
 he repaid me
 according to the cleanness of my hands.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord
 and have not turned from my God to wickedness.
22 Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me
 and have not disregarded his statutes.
23 I was blameless toward him
 and kept myself from my iniquity.
24 So the Lord repaid me
 according to my righteousness,
 according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

25 With the faithful
 you prove yourself faithful,
 with the blameless
 you prove yourself blameless,
26 with the pure
 you prove yourself pure,
 but with the crooked
 you prove yourself shrewd.
27 For you rescue an oppressed people,
 but you humble those with haughty eyes.
28 Lord, you light my lamp;
 my God illuminates my darkness.
29 With you I can attack a barricade,
 and with my God I can leap over a wall.

30 God—his way is perfect;
 the word of the Lord is pure.
 He is a shield to all who take refuge in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord?
 And who is a rock? Only our God.
32 God—he clothes me with strength
 and makes my way perfect.
33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer
 and sets me securely on the heights.
34 He trains my hands for war;
 my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You have given me the shield of your salvation;
 your right hand upholds me,
 and your humility exalts me.
36 You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps,
 and my ankles do not give way.

37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them;
 I do not turn back until they are wiped out.
38 I crush them, and they cannot get up;
 they fall beneath my feet.
39 You have clothed me with strength for battle;
 you subdue my adversaries beneath me.
40 You have made my enemies retreat before me;
 I annihilate those who hate me.
41 They cry for help, but there is no one to save them—
 they cry to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
42 I pulverize them like dust before the wind;
 I trample them like mud in the streets.

43 You have freed me from the feuds among the people;
 you have appointed me the head of nations;
 a people I had not known serve me.
44 Foreigners submit to me cringing;
 as soon as they hear they obey me.
45 Foreigners lose heart
 and come trembling from their fortifications.

46 The Lord lives—blessed be my rock!
 The God of my salvation is exalted.
47 God—he grants me vengeance
 and subdues peoples under me.
48 He frees me from my enemies.
 You exalt me above my adversaries;
 you rescue me from violent men.
49 Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations, Lord;
 I will sing praises about your name.
50 He gives great victories to his king;
 he shows loyalty to his anointed,
 to David and his descendants forever.
