Overall Responsibilities
The following expectations and job description are the minimal expectation for Early Childhood Education teachers at Life Christian Academy. The primary role of a teacher at Life Christian Academy is to teach students to know and love Jesus Christ through ethics, respect, academics, and programs.
Principle Responsibilities
Practice love, joy, patience, kindness, self-control, gentleness, faithfulness, and truthfulness
Articulate in writing and speaking how the teacher’s Christian faith integrates with his or her teaching
Instructional planning to translate the school’s student outcomes into specific objectives
Select and use curricular materials that will help students achieve these outcomes
Practice integration in unit planning and teaching, both biblically and across subjects
Plan and use a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of the students
Select in advance the means of assessment to measure students’ learning
Use class time well with activities that engage students’ attention and demonstrate a clear purpose
Be available to parents for conference
Complete paperwork including academic progress reports, complete inventories of classroom equipment/supplies/books, records of attendance, end of year debriefing evaluation forms, and any other necessary record-keeping requested by supervisor and/or administration
In relating with students, the teacher is expected to:
Establish a climate of love and care
Define responsible Christian behavior for students, including establishing guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior
Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate correcting, counseling and role modeling
Maintain proper classroom discipline, taking care of minor problems personally and referring major problems to the principal, keeping records as required
In professional growth the teacher is expected to:
Respectfully submit and be loyal to the constituted authority of the school, take responsibility for all tasks related to the classroom, parent communication and the broader school community
Work constructively with colleagues and administration by contributing ideas and listening to others
Attend and participate in staff devotions, student chapels, teachers’ meetings, staff/student retreats, church sponsored functions, and other meetings and activities as assigned
Maintains basic knowledge of employment law
Oversees growth, development and performance management of ECE Teacher’s Assistant
Maintain familiarity with employee policies and procedures as well as ECE Handbook
Other duties as assigned

First Aid/CPR
Applicable Credentials for ECE Certification
Possess or immediately willing to obtain:
Merit Account
Valid TB Test
30 hours of basic STARS Training
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in field of Early Childhood Education or related field

Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises the ECE Teacher’s Assistant and is responsible for their growth, development and performance management.
Continuing Education Requirement
This position must maintain minimum state requirements. Additionally, this position may be required to engage in workshops or conferences to stay abreast of early childhood education philosophy and will participate in staff trainings when offered.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required on a regular basis to stand; walk; crouch; stoop; sit (including siting on the floor); use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Safely handle typical chemicals used to clean and sanitize in a commercial setting.
Travel
Other than travel to and from the worksite, it is not anticipated except as may be necessary to attend offsite training or conference.

Hours
Monday through Friday. Approximately 40 hours per week. Exact schedule between the hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm and will be specified at the start of the school year.
