I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. Psalm 3:5 CSB
Are you someone who finds it easy to fall asleep and get some rest? Or does sleep sometimes evade you and you struggle with getting the right amount of rest? There are all kinds of situations that can disrupt your peace and disturb your rest. Maybe there are worries about the future, or anxieties about your health, or concerns about a relationship. Today’s verse is a simple reminder that God is with you. He is watching over you and sustains you no matter what you may be facing. The simple act of lying down and sleeping shows a vulnerability that you must let some things go and let God take them. God is always on call, and He can carry you through the night and wake you to a new day that is filled with His daily mercy and provision for whatever you may be facing.

1 Lord, how my foes increase!
There are many who attack me.
2 Many say about me,
“There is no help for him in God.”Selah
3 But you, Lord, are a shield around me,

5 I lie down and sleep;

who have taken their stand against me on every side.

our lips are our own—who can be our master?”
5 “Because of the devastation of the needy
and the groaning of the poor,
I will now rise up,” says the Lord.
“I will provide safety for the one who longs for it.”

like silver refined in an earthen furnace,

you will protect us from this generation forever.

How long will my enemy dominate me?

1God, listen to my prayer
and do not hide from my plea for help.
2 Pay attention to me and answer me.
I am restless and in turmoil with my complaint,
3 because of the enemy’s words,
because of the pressure of the wicked.
For they bring down disaster on me
and harass me in anger.
4 My heart shudders within me;
terrors of death sweep over me.
5 Fear and trembling grip me;
horror has overwhelmed me.
6 I said, “If only I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and find rest.
7 How far away I would flee;

from the raging wind and the storm.”
9 Lord, confuse and confound their speech,
for I see violence and strife in the city;
10 day and night they make the rounds on its walls.
Crime and trouble are within it;

12 Now it is not an enemy who insults me—
otherwise I could bear it;
it is not a foe who rises up against me—
otherwise I could hide from him.

my companion and good friend!

to the Pit of destruction;
